Season Preview and Expectations:

The New York Knights enter the 2011 Championship after a challenging 2010 season. After being crowned champions in 2009, the Knights went into 2010 with high expectations.  After an exit in the semi-finals of the playoffs, The Knights are more determined than ever to return to their status amongst the elite in the USA.

Players to watch in 2011:

  • CJ Cortalano – CJ enjoyed his first season of Rugby League in 2010, slotting into the Knights dummy-half position with ease. His awareness and timing quickly became crucial to the team and his quick adaptation to the game was rewarded with his selection in the USA Tomahawks team. In 2011, CJ is a player who will be leading from the front and will be vital in the team’s fortunes.
  • Xavier Lozinguez – X is one of the largest Knights and has a formidable frame perfect for a Rugby League second rower. 2011 will be his third season playing rugby league where he has stamped his role as barraging line runner and bruising defender. He was rewarded with selection in the USA Tomahawks team in 2011 and will be one of the Knights key strike weapons wide of the ruck in this season’s championship.
  • Michael Cartwright – Mike is the Knights most damaging front row forward. Also a Tomahawks representative for the past two seasons, he is continually a handful for oppositions working close to the ruck. He is only getting better with every game and 2011 will be a big year for him.
  • Sean Taylor – Affectionately known as ‘Babyface’, Sean is no baby on the rugby field.  Honing his skills as a youngster in New Zealand and now a USA citizen and Tomahawk representative, Sean has an uncanny ability to break tackles with ease and possess clever footwork confounding his opponents. He continues to mature as a player and as always will be a key member of the Knights team.
  • Regan Hyde – Regan is a key recruit for the Knights in 2011. Hailing from the QLD cup in Australia, Regan will bring over a wealth of Rugby League experience to share with our players, as well as his on-field process as a rangy second-rower. Players like Regan are vital to help with the development of local New York players.
