This weekend the AMNRL hosts the 14th annual War at the Shore rugby league festival. After an action packed season so far, a full day of rugby league fun for the whole family will descend upon Sea Isle City, NJ, this Saturday with clubs looking to settle scores and showcase their artillery before the playoffs. Around 1,500 fans will attend the festivities throughout the day to catch a glimpse of the AMNRL Challenge Cup sevens tournament. The shortened version of the game will stretch the limits of the boys’ speed and endurance and may foreshadow the plot of the playoffs in a few weeks’ time.
At 1:30pm, the Aston Bulls will play their final regular season game against the Connecticut Wildcats. The Wildcats are already guaranteed a rest in the first week of the playoffs but will be looking to amass maximum momentum for their finals campaign. As the Bulls have proven this season, they love the tough stuff and will be out to unsettle the Wildcats with their physicality. The day moves on to another round of the Eagletag tournament at 4:30pm. The climax of the day should be the finals of the sevens tournament, starting at 5:30pm, with the winner being crowned by around 6:30pm.
AMNRL boss, David Niu said the War at the Shore XIV is a great showcase of rugby league and an important day on the AMNRL calendar, “The area and venue chosen, allows us to reach a wide audience and attract new fans that are on holidays from all over the Northeast USA region,” he said.
With the help of this year’s event partner, Vita Coco, this is the one day of the year the AMNRL community unites to celebrate rugby league in America with music, free food and a party in the park to commence after the football formalities.
The festival will conclude at 8pm. Admission is free.
