The USA Tomahawks coaching staff has begun preparations for the national team’s 2012 international campaign by scheduling mini camps for its elite player pool both in the USA and overseas.

The USA’s first test will be against Ireland on March 17th in Philadelphia and the American National Rugby League front office is looking at conducting two mini camps prior to that match.

Coaches and administrators from around the League are being asked to nominate players they feel have the ability to play at the higher level for inclusion in the elite player pool.

As it did successfully in 2011, the AMNRL plans to include overseas-based players along with domestic players in the player pool as it builds towards next year’s Rugby League World Cup.

Apart from the Donnybrook Cup match against the Irish, the Tomahawks are also working on plans for games against Japan and Tonga mid year, along with a couple of big international events at the latter part of the season that may feature an overseas tour for the US squad and inbound tour from NRL powerhouse the Melbourne Storm.

The 2012 elite player pool will be announced soon.
