Hurricane Sandy, which ripped through the eastern seaboard of the US last week has impacted the lives of many in Northeast America, and one of our own rugby league stars has felt the full effect of the rising floodwaters, fires, and damaging winds.
Fitzjames Adams is an integral part of the New York Knights Rugby League success in recent years. He is also a current USA Tomahawks playing in both recent victories over Canada in the Colonial Cup. He is a native New Yorker from the Breezy Point section of the Rockaways, Queens. This section of New York City was one of the worst hit by the devastation of Hurricane Sandy. Fitzy, his family and many of their neighbors lost their homes in the devastation of Hurricane Sandy.
In a sign of solidarity and goodwill from Rugby League and Rugby Union players from Australia, a fundraiser has been organized to help Fitzy and his community get back on their feet. It just so happens that a group of superstar rugby league and union players are stopped over in NYC this weekend on their way to Bermuda for a Masters Rugby tournament. Rugby League immortal Andrew Johns, and fellow league superstars Brad Fittler, Bryan Fletcher, Phil Bailey will join Rugby Union stars Garrick Morgan, Daniel Manu, and Matt Dunning at The Australian Bar in midtown Manhattan to help raise funds for the affected families.
Former NRL, SLE, NSW and Australian star Phil Bailey has recently moved to NYC and will be playing for the NY Knights in 2013 has been the driving force behind the event along with Matt Astill, former Manly Sea Eagle and Newtown Jets player who is the owner of the Australian Bar in NYC. He has put together the event with Rob Balachandran, NY Knights President.
A multinational, cross code coming together of goodwill!
The fun begins at 5pm on Saturday, November 10:
