OUR LEAGUE - OUR TEAM!
The USA National Rugby League team will be fully prepared to take it's place at the 2013 Rugby League World Cup as the coaching staff and league chief David Niu build on many years of fantastic work in America to present rugby league on the national and international stage.
2012 has been a busy season which kicked off with the Donnybrook Cup against Ireland in March and will close out in November with the Remembrance Cup Tournament in Las Vegas. Four international matches were played that featured 40 odd different players representing the USA that provided valuable insight to the coaching staff regarding player evaluation and future selections.
Led by Matty Elliott, the coaching staff comprising of Marcus Vassilakopoulos, Lee Addison, Steve Johnson, Rob Balachandran, Jeff Preston, and Ben Kelly along with top notch medical support from Dr. Merrick Wetzler and Dr. Jack Kazanjian the US squad will warm up against some stiff opposition in the lead up to the 2013 RLWC where they will take on the Cook Islands, Wales and Scotland.
David Niu has been in discussions with leadership from Ireland, Samoa, Canada and Italy to finalize plans for the US squad to play each nation in various locations around America, along with a full domestic season that will lay the foundation over the next twleve months to allow the coaching staff to evaluate and select our best ever squad to assemble in England to participate in their first ever Rugby League World Cup.
It is expected that a number of new and returning clubs will be part of an exciting national domestic competition in 2013 featuring games in the east, midwest, southwest, southeast, west, and pacific. Regional competitions are growing and expanding as rugby league continues to develop nationally as evidenced by the developments in the Midwest, and the Southwest throughout the year with games still to be played in Las Vegas and Honolulu before the season ends.
Onward and Upward!!
