MIDWEST RUGBY LEAGUE
Rugby League development in the Midwest continues in 2011 with the Chicago Stockyarders leading the way in the region.
AMNRL head of referees Rob Irwin was in Chicago this past weekend to further aid the development of Rugby League in the midwest. He met with representatives of Midwest Rugby League and the Chicago Stockyarders to forge links with local referees and deliver equipment for the coming season. "An important part of any developing Rugby League scene is the development of match officials and the ready support we have received from the American National Rugby League in this area has been vital for us" said Midwest Rugby League spokesman Mike Featherstone.
Following on from the Stockyarders' progress in 2010, 2011 is a big year for Rugby League in the midwest with local 7's and 9's games and tournaments planned and the potential development of further teams in the region. The Chicago Stockyarders team will soon announce a season of exhibition games to build on the recent off field progress made through sponsorship deals with Chicago based Rogers Fit Squad and UK mouth guard supplier Piranha Guard. 2011 makes for an interesting year for the sport of Rugby League in the midwest region.
