The American National Rugby League is planning a major event on Friday night in New York City to mark the occasion of Grand Final XIV. The New York Knights and Connecticut Wildcats have qualified for the 2011 Cup Final in what will be the culmination of the AMNRL’s 14th season. The game will be played under lights at Pier 40 in Manhattan.
The Grand Final will be played over four 20-minute quarters. In the event of a tied score at fulltime there will be two 10-minute periods of extra time and if the scores are still locked at the end of 100 minutes, a Sudden Death/Golden Point system will take effect. That means the first team to score from that point of the match onwards will be crowned champion. A try, penalty goal or drop goal will win it. In rugby league a penalty goal is worth two points and a drop goal is worth a single point.
The New York Knights are celebrating their ten year anniversary and will be striving for premiership number three! The Connecticut Wildcats will be playing in their sixth Cup Final and looking to claim their fourth national title! There will be pregame entertainment, a halftime show and many more outstanding reasons to mark your calendar and make sure you don’t miss what is shaping up to be one of the best ever Grand Final events in the history of club rugby league in America.
