Final 20-man squads have been named by both the USA Tomahawks and Jamaica for Sunday’s crunch Rugby League World Cup qualifier in Philadelphia. Jamaica has gone with an unchanged 20, while the USA has made just one change to its squad with European Super League player Ryan McGoldrick being drafted into the side in place of Ian Elliott. McGoldrick missed the first qualifier because of a suspension handed to him by the Super League.
The US squad has had a good week of practice and has been focusing on improving on last Saturday’s winning performance. “The talk is good in camp and we’re not really worrying about what they can do but more what we can do better,” Tomahawk Mark Offerdahl told WeAreRugby.
The winner of Sunday’s match secures the Atlantic Zone berth for the 2013 World Cup while the loser will lament what could have been and Offerdahl thinks that’s enough motivation right there for anyone. “Playing for a spot in the World Cup for me is the biggest motivator. It’s not every day you get to play at that level is it,” he said. “As for our chances of winning, well I’m always confident against any team, but if we put everything together it should be a very good game."
