AMNRL SEASON XIV KICKOFF!
The American National Rugby League kicks off its 14th year of competition this weekend and the 2011 season ushers in a new expansion team, as well as welcoming back some old friends. The Delaware Vipers is a brand new team that is joining the league, while the Bucks County Sharks are back in the fray after taking 2010 off to retool their club. They join the AMNRL’s existing clubs Aston Bulls, Connecticut Wildcats, New York Knights and Northern Raiders.
The new season is set to open with a bang this Saturday with three games in Philadelphia, the home of rugby league in America.

Falls Township Park
12pm – Vipers v Knights
130pm – Bulls v Wildcats
Monsignor Bonner HS Football Stadium
The Knights take on the Vipers in the first match of the double header, followed by a replay of the 2007 AMNRL Grand Final between the Wildcats and Bulls, whilst the Raiders and Sharks renew acquaintances to kick off the day’s action.
The AMNRL is also progressing with expansion plans in other parts of the country including the Midwest and Hawaii. This season will see exhibition games featuring the Chicago Stockyarders, an AMNRL Hawaii league and a Hawaiian AMNRL team as the league continues to develop and promote the sport of rugby league in America.
“We are extremely excited to kick off our 14th season,” says AMNRL president David Niu. “Every year we face new challenges in developing rugby league in America and 2011 presents us with an incredible opportunity to introduce the game in new areas and expand the AMNRL programs for new players and fans. “The whole season will build toward the RLWCQ in Philadelphia and the chance for the USA Tomahawks to qualify for our first ever Rugby League World Cup. We encourage all our fans to follow our efforts throughout 2011 and enjoy the sport of rugby league in America.”
The league also is pleased to acknowledge the involvement of Errea, the official kit supplier of the AMNRL, Polygel Thermoactive, and Vanguard Rugby for the 2011 season.
