The American National Rugby League moves into Round 3 this weekend and will feature an Atlantic Conference doubleheader in the big apple. The hometown New York Knights will host their archrivals Aston Bulls in the early game, before the newly reborn franchise Delaware Vipers lock horns with the improving Northern Raiders in the late game. Both matches will be played at Pier 40 in Manhattan with the first clash set for a 730p ET kickoff. The second game is scheduled to start at 9p ET.
The Knights (1-1) currently hold down second place in the standings, with the Bulls (0-1) lying in the five spot. The Raiders (1-1), who’re enjoying their best start to a season in years, are third and will be looking to improve their record against the sixth-placed Vipers (0-1). It will be the home opener for the New York Knights as they celebrate their ten year anniversary. With a proud history in the AMNRL competition, the two time champions will be looking to stamp their authority on the 2011 competition with a big win over the Bulls at 'The Castle' that is expected to draw a big crowd. The Knights will be led by key imports Regan Hyde and Nigel Millgate while the Bulls will look to Tomahawks Internationals Louis Tulio, Andrew Kneisly, John Convery, and Bryan Confer to lead them in a tough battle in NYC.
Week 3 gets underway earlier in the day at Shark Park in Levittown, PA, when the table topping Bucks County Sharks (2-0) host the third-placed Connecticut Wildcats (1-1) AT 1p ET. The Sharks have firmed as early season favorites after two convincing wins to start their 2011 campaign. With a blend of experience via the likes of Phil Shipos, Steve Thompson, Zac Padget and Fred Backhaus along with young exciting talent such as Ryan Sodano, Brian McCall, Josh Jerrold and Kyle Gibbons the Sharks have a formidable squad that should be serious title contenders come play off time.
