AMNRL to Host World Cup Atlantic Qualifiers
The RLIF has officially announced Philadelphia as the location for the Atlantic Qualifiers for the 2013 Rugby League World Cup. USA, Jamaica and South Africa will battle it out this October in an effort to join Wales and the Cook Islands in Group D of the 2013 Rugby League World Cup, held in the United Kingdom.
AMNRL President, David Niu is eagerly anticipating the battle. "The AMNRL is excited to host the Rugby League World Cup Qualifiers in October between the USA, Jamaica,and South Africa to determine the Atlantic Region nation to progress to the 2013 Rugby League World Cup. We look forward to presenting an exciting tournament in Philadelphia that will showcase the great sport of rugby league in one of the major sporting markets in America. Three games. Three proud nations. One winner. An international rugby league event that will turn the City of Brotherly Love into the City of Brotherly Scrum!"
Niel Wood, Director of European Development for the RFL said, “Having witnessed the way in which the USA v Ireland game was organized, I am very confident that David Niu and his team will deliver an outstanding tournament that will give all the competing teams the very best opportunity to perform and to gain that all important place in the 2013 Rugby League World Cup. Now that the dates are announced, South Africa, Jamaica and the USA Tomahawks can really ramp up their preparations and we all wish them well in their endeavors.”
Jamaica Director of Rugby Romeo Monteith is confident rugby’s reggae boys will make an impact. "We are very enthused about the qualifiers and are looking forward to a great tournament, we want to repay the faith of our fans and major sponsors by putting in an incredible performance that will highlight the growth of rugby league in Jamaica."
