A
Knights Tale
The
AMNRL continue to develop key roles in the promotion and development
of Rugby League in America with the announcement that Matt Astill,
current player/coach of the 2002 Cup Champion New York Knights,
will join the AMNRL administrative staff as the Northeast Development
Manager.
Matt
enjoyed a successful season co-ordinating the Knights program with
Rob Balachandran, and has been instrumental in establishing a base
of operations in New York City. Matt will now assume the role of
assisting AMNRL General Manager Bill Hansbury, in co-ordinating
the AMNRL activities in the Northeast region; that will include
developing youth and coach education programs, co-ordinating the
domestic calendar, and maintaining the growth of Rugby League at
all levels from youth to international in the Northeast.
Having
recently obtained his residence status in the USA, the rugged Knights
prop is now eligible for selection on the USA Tomahawks squad. Matt
is a former Manly Sea Eagle and Newtown Jet from Australia whose
experience and commitment is a welcome addition to the AMNRL organization.
