EAGLETAG TOUCHES DOWN

Aston DSC Bulls RLFC an AMNRL to develop Flag Rugby Programs

To support the developing interest in the sport of Rugby League in local areas and across the country, the AMNRL in association with the Aston DSC Bulls will be launching the exciting game of EAGLETAG (Flag Rugby League) in programs for ages from five to seventeen at Northley Middle School Field by Sun Valley High School Football Stadium from May 20 through July 29.

The EAGLETAG programs will run every Tuesday evening from 6pm.

EAGLETAG is a non-contact game that is played just like the sport of Rugby League. Rule modifications allow only eight players in each team on the field at anyone time. The field dimensions are also shortened. Players have a Velcro Strip or Flag on each side, known as a tag. The object of the game is to score tries. Defenders prevent this by tagging the ball carrier, removing the tag from the shorts.

In EAGLETAG the offense has six plays or tags to try and score a try or promote the ball down field as close to the line as possible.
All rugby league skills are utilized in EAGLETAG including kicking. Passing becomes an attacking weapon, and if a player is put into space, there is a high probability they will make a clean break and score a try.

EAGLETAG is non-contact and the rules are designed to encourage this - you cannot as an attacker run straight at a defender, you must run at the gaps or spaces. A defender cannot impede the progress of an attacker, so if you try to get a tag and bump the attacker you may well be penalized. The rule is whoever initiates contact will be penalized.

More information on rules, coaches, sign ups and registration will be announced soon.
