LINCOLN CONFERENCE WINS ALLSTAR MATCH IN OVERTIME THRILLER
The AMNRL Allstar Challenge Match capped off a spectacular domestic season with a thrilling 42-38 victory to the Lincoln Conference through the match winning try by Northern Raiders emerging star, Jeremy Kosbob, in sudden death overtime.
The Lincoln Conference set the match alight with a blazing start from the kickoff and jumped out to a 16-0 lead after only five minutes. At that point it seemed the combined might of the Bulls, Knights, Raiders and Wildcats might prove to be too much for their Franklin Conference counterparts. Fortunately for the Franklin Conference Allstars and Coach Marty O'Donoghue, they were able to string together possessions which ultimately translated into points as they narrowed the gap by the end of the first quarter.
As the match developed, the talent and skills of either side emerged and a number of entertaining passing movements led to tries and excited the crowd on hand.
JC Rocha and Ric Dortone of the Slayers led the charge for the Franklin Conference, whilst Ben Kelly, Marty O'Connell, and Will Braizer were dangerous with each touch for the Lincoln Conference.
Jeff Preston scored the match levelling try with seconds remaining that lead to sudden death overtime and the scores deadlocked at 38 each.
From the kickoff restart by the Lincoln Conference, the Franklin Allstars threatened to break the match open only to turnover possession and lead to the match winning try by Kosbob for the Inaugral AMNRL Allstar Challenge Title to go to the Lincoln Conference.
USA Tomahawks International and Washington DC Slayers robust center Ric Dortone was named the match MVP. The AMNRL Allstar Challenge Match was an exciting event for players and spectators and should develop into a feature event on the AMNRL Domestic Calendar.
