- Cats go Wild on New York
The Connecticut Wildcats took one giant step closer to a story book season Saturday,
as they defeated last years Champions, the New York Knights 58-26, in an
incredibly physical and bruising Rugby League match-up in Norwalk, Connecticut.
The
Cats advanced to the AMNRL Championship versus the Glen Mills Bulls and are seeking
to be crowned both the regular season and Playoff Champions, in this, their first
year as a club. The
Knights came out of the gates like gangbusters, and it was evident that they had
set their sights on defending their well-earned title of reigning AMNRL Champions.
The tempo was fast and furious as both teams attempted to establish physical dominance,
and the dust-ups were too many to be counted. Both
teams touched down three times in the first half, but the perfect foot of the
Knights Yasukasu Seto, to the tune of 3 conversions and one penalty goal, gave
the Knights a four point halftime lead. Scoring for the Knights were Rocco "Triple-H"
Forgione , Craig Wells and Ma, the Kiwi man-model. For
the Cats were Dave Grey, "Texas" John Sturman and Danny Bull. Knights
20 Cats 16. The second half saw both sides equally as angry, but it
was the Cats composure and grace under the pressure that opened things up.
In the end, the Cats outscored the Knights 42-6 over the last 40 minutes and the
final was 58-26; Cats. Danny Bull touched down four times for the Cats and was
also joined by "Sir" Lawrence Raleigh, Mike Mulvihill, Ben Kelly, and
Greg Stelluti. Mulvihill was nearly perfect on the day kicking, slotting 9 from
ten conversions. Rumor
has it that "The Mole" has been approached by several marketing companies
to develop his own line of kicking tees; given the 91% kicking accuracy he has
sustained throughout the 2003 AMNRL season. The
Cats will be traveling Friday afternoon to Philadelphia to prepare for the Championship
at Glen Mills this Saturday 6pm. Final
