Knights win Fight against Fight 46-36!
Written by: Robert Balachandran
The New York Knights guaranteed themselves a play off birth with a hard
fought win over the much improved Philadelphia Fight at the annual "War at the Shore" today.
Both teams have a history of bruising encounters at the Shore and this
game was no exception! New York came into the game as favorites but the
Fight let New York know that they had come to play, scoring first in the early moments of the game. Philadelphia second rower Conway Maraki gave the Knights defense trouble throughout the game with his "barging" runs and excellent ball skills.
However after a few "gentle words of encouragement" from team captain Matt Astill, the Knights began to find their form with Ryan Rogers starting off a magnificent day for
himself scoring the first of the his three trys for the day!
The game continued in a thrust and parry fashion with the Fight never
conceding defeat even after New York was several tries ahead of them at halftime. The second half began with Fight captain Jeff Preston leading
his team towards a "Rocky like" comeback with a superb solo try; which brought the Fight with two trys of the Knights with 15 minutes left to play in the game!
The game appeared
to be heading back to the Fight's corner of the ring, when the Knights woke up from their second half slumber with outstanding performances by Rocco Forgione, Dan Driscoll and long break which lead to a try by Tommy "Whispers" Scheinzbach.
Both the Knights and the Fight finish their regular season on the road next week against the Northern Raiders and the Jersey Sharks respectively, as they both attempt to improve their standings in the final points table.
