National Rugby League News | Bulls
exact revenge on the Knights The
New York Knights went down to a red hot Glen Mills outfit 52 - 22 on the weekend.
The match was played in perfect conditions at Jack Pearson stadium in front of
close to 1000 screaming fans, who were treated to a marvellous exibition of attcking
Rugby League. A replay of last years Grand Final saw 2 different teams take
the field with the Knights losing 4 star players to the Wildcats and the Bulls
with the addition of 2003 Champion Cantebury Bulldogs Jersey Flegg Squad Ben Shaw,
Chris McGuirk, and Micheal Tesoriero to their squad. The three new players complimented
the Bulls nicely, playing a big part in the Bulls win. The
Bulls jumped out to an early lead in the first half 22-6. Eric Hollingsworth played
his best game of the year found the try zone twice in the half and played solid
in defense for the entire game. The Knights never recovered from the
opening onslaught by the Bulls which resulted in 22 unanswered points in the first
15 minutes. From that point on New york were behind the eight ball, even though
they managed to tighten their defence to go into halftime at a more respectable
22 - 6. In
the second half Ritchie Warr and Christian Rahui sparked several promising attacking
raids. However, poor options and over exuberance in finishing saw the Knights
fall in to what has become a familiar pattern this year - doing twice as much
defence as they should have to. "The Bulls gave us a Rugby League
lesson today, one which I am sure we will learn from. One, we cannot keep turning
the ball over to such a quality side because they will make us pay with any lapse
in defence," lamented New York skipper Matt Astill. The Knights were definately
hurt by the loss of players the calibre of Rob Balachandran, Kazoo Seto, Craig
Wells and Ma Nicholas as well as exiting newcomers Matt Hughes and Hiram Velez.
The three Black Knights Hayden James, Jerry Legal and Kamala (Christopher Curtis
Clinton) were also unavailable.
