Philadelphia Fight Slays D.C.Slayers

Written by: Jeff Preston

The Philadelphia Fight made it two in a row Saturday afternoon in front of a huge crowd at the Sea Isle Ruggerfest with a 66-18 win over the D.C. Slayers. The game started hard and fast with some heavy hits in the first few minutes from both sides. Then, the Fight were the first ones on the scoreboard with a nice run from dummy half by John McIlhinney to score under the posts. A few minutes later, Andrew Fusco took a pass from Conway Maraki and darted 60 meters for a try.

The Slayers, who fought hard the entire day, just couldn't catch up with the Fight who ended up running in 12 tries on the day to the Slayers 3. Great Fight performances were put in by Conway Maraki, John McIlhinney, Louis Tulio, and Andrew Fusco. Newcomers, Dan Trainor and Bob Sideshow, dotted down tries for the Fight and played very well. Both squads have tough games next week at America's premier rugby league festival - "War at the Shore".
