Shark
swims home to the USA
Further
proof of the mission of the AMNRL to promote youth development and
create opportunities for American players to learn and improve their
Rugby League skills is eveident in the recent return from Australia
by Phil Shipos of the Sharks.
The
New Jersey Sharks winger Phil Shipos has returned stateside after
a successful stint in the NSW Country Rugby League competition with
Kyogle RLFC on the northern NSW coast. Through a continuing plan
to promote and develop young players in the AMNRL competition, the
experience gained by Phil with Kyogle should be translated into
some key performances for the Sharks for the remainder of the 2004
season.
Whilst
in Australia Phil was able to catch up with the New Jersey Sharks
partner NRL club, the Cronulla Sharks and spend time with Australian
and Cronulla coach Chris Anderson, and many of the players including
David Peachey.
Having
earned his first international cap against Ireland this past March
and the desire to earn many more, the opportunity for Phil to head
to Australia and improve his skills has been of tremendous benefit
for one of the rising young stars of the AMNRL competition.
