Lightning Strikes as Sharks sink Fight

The NJ Sharks and Philadelphia Fight met, for the first time this season, at "Shark Park" (Falls Township Community Park, Levittown PA) for third round action. Both team with a record of 1-and-1 were looking to take the top of the table standings and win the intra-conference local clash.

Shark's Steve Thompson was the first to score with out wide, that went unconverted but Philly answered back with a unconverted try by R.Birch after pressuring the Sharks try-line and forcing some missed tackles to even the score.

The Sharks continued to pressure out wide with some enterprising play that saw them add three more tries (through Jeff "Cookie" Cook; Jim Sweeney and Fred Backhaus). Dave Cunliffe converted two of these tries to take the score to (4-20).

In second quarter action, Philadelphia replied by adding a try by Stefan Helleringer that was converted by Jay Neely (10-20), however the Sharks answered back with a further two tries scored by Mark Rado and Steve Thompson (his second) that took the Sharks to a commanding lead of 30 points to 10.

Half time saw the Dark clouds open to a severe thunder and lightning storm that forced the referee to call a premature end to the match after both teams waited around for it to pass. The early call was a disappointment to players and spectators alike with Sharks taking the points under AMNRL rules.
