Round 2 Recap
With
the summer weather yet to begin on the East Coast, Round 2 was the
setting for another wet and cold weekend as the teams braved the
elements for the first of its AMNRL summer picnics. For the first
time both conference teams were gathered in one location to get
a look at each others talent and style of play.
Glen
Mills Bulls 32 defeated DC Slayers 10
The Bulls continued on their winning defeating a spirited Washington
DC teams who were without star players Martin O'Donoghue and Eric
Dortone. Big performances from Shayne Mains, Carl Barr and Marcus
Vassilakopoulos who also potted 4 goals were too much for the Slayers
which never gave up all day.
NJ
Sharks 50 defeated Media Manatarays 20
The New Jersey Sharks emerged victorious in the "Battle of
the Ocean" against close rivals the Media Mantarays in a game
played in ocean like conditions at Catania Park, Media.
The game was a tense affair with some big collisions that had both
teams stinging. Media, who performed admirably in the opening stages,
but it was the experience of the Sharks in end that told. With superior
communication and good support play, the Sharks were able to run
out convincing winners 56-26.
NY
Knights 56 defeated Philadelphia Fight 10
The New York Knights put a brave Philadelphia Fight to the sword
on Saturday at Ridley Field running out convincing winners 56 to
14. As usual skipper Jeff Preston had his side fired up, with the
Fight going try for try with the Champions in the opening half.
However,
experience and sheer weight of possession allowed the Knights to
step up a gear in the second half and run away with victory. Gareth
Baxendale, a founding Knight playing his last game, was tireless
in attack and defense and scored two tries. Craig Wells also posted
a double as did legendary Old Blue Union stalwart Sean Horan, who
was menacing in the centers. Kazoo Seto looked sharp and as usual
Christian Rahui was everywhere.
Connecticut
Wildcats 24 defeated NJ Vikings 0 with an agreed forfeit due
to lack of players.
