The
new expansion team, Washington DC Slayers proved their entry into
the AMNRL competition is not going to be a slow one, with a comprehensive
victory over the New Jersey Sharks over the weekend, running out
winners 56-26.
The Sharks, who were minus there Tomahawk enforcers Justin Zadnick
and Zach Padgett, along with classy back Phil Shipos, found the
Slayers just too enthusiastic in the first game and will now concentrate
on rectifying tis result with a solid perfromance in the "Battle
of the Sea", against the Media Mantarays this weekend.
Commenting on last weekends game, club official Fred Backhaus had
this to say:
"In a disappointing effort, the Sharks lost their first game to
the D.C. Slayers. Traveling short handed, missing tackles, and creating
errors, the Sharks weren't on their game. The Sharks guarantee to
redeem themselves this week against Media."
After a strong off season and real aspirations of going one better
than they did last year and reach the Championship Final, the Sharks
will have to regroup and train hard this weekend to iron out a few
of the flaws they had against the Slayers. They will also be determined
to showcase their undoubted ability to all the other AMNRL teams
as all games this weekend are held at Media's ground, Catania Park.
