Expansion
Clubs set the Tone for 2003
An
amazing start to Round One on the AMNRL saw 2 of the new expansion
teams in the Connecticut Wildcats and Washington DC Slayers both
defeating what are considered favorites to take out the C.D. Ferrainola
Cup for 2003. Both New Jersey Sharks and New York Knights suffered
losses in what now promises to be an interesting season as the
Cup winner seems to be any ones guess.
Much
hype has been made during the USA off season about the potential
oif these 2 new sides and it seems that all this attention is
going to be well deserved. The victories underline the great work
done by both clubs to get a professionally run side on the park
for the season opener and with more experience for many of the
rugby union converts playing league for the first time, both sides
will only get better.
Both
Teams playing at home will need to prove themsleves again next
week as they both play their first away game in the AMNRL Picnic
at Catania Park Ridley PA.
In
the other games for Round One, 4 time Champions Glen Mills Bulls,
were too classy for the inexperienced NJ Vikings, while Philadelphia
got away with a close victory against local rivals Media Mantarays.
