Bulls Fight Off the Philadelphia Fight

The Glen Mills Bulls kicked off their 2006 season with a hard fought victory over the Philadelphia Fight by 48-26 at Jack Pearson Stadium in an exciting season opener for both clubs.

The Bulls jumped out to 20-0 lead after 14 minutes and looked like they would run up a big score after early tries which kept the Fight on the back foot for much of the first half. As the young Fight squad began to maintain possession their offense began to dvelop and by halftime the Bulls held a 20-6 lead.

The third quarter featured some crunching hits and an exciting attacking play with the Fight showing why they will be a real force in the 2006 season coming back to almost level the scores and go to the third quarter break down by 26-22 and with plenty of football still to play.

The final period saw the Bulls come out with a more determined approach that eventually wore down a young and aggressive Fight team that will be a real threat to every club in this year's competition.

Best players on the field were last years MVP runner up Conway Maraki for the Fight, who received great support from USA Tomahawks international Louis Tulio. It was a welcome return by Brian Flaherty, one of the league's most damaging players who has been away from the competition for a few seasons.

For the Bulls a number of new players will make a big impact on the new season including Cory Benson, Darren Lewis, Geoff Ashman, Jim Brazille, and Mike Mertz, all of whom have a college football background and were playing their first game of Rugby League.
