The Boston Braves announce sponsorship deal with Budweiser Select
The Boston Braves have announced a sponsorship deal with Budweiser Select for the 2006 season. Budweiser Select www.budselect.com/ will be the featured sponsor on team shirts, and the team will work to promote Budweiser Select at all official functions.
Braves Vice President, Todd Stone, worked with Ray Butler, owner of the Banshee bar in Dorchester, to secure this deal. “We’re really happy to begin this association with Budweiser Select,” Todd relayed to amnrl.com, “Budweiser is a huge brand and we want the Cub and the League to begin a long-term association.”
The Banshee is a favorite spot for locals, sports teams and tourists alike, and Ray Butler’s enthusiastic support for the Braves, which began last season (when the Club operated as the Boston Wolfhounds), was formalized over the winter. Ray worked with the Braves not only to build the relationship with Budweiser Select, but also by helping to secure the premier playing field in the area, the Paul Saunders Stadium, as the Braves home field. “We’re very grateful for all the work Ray has put in on our behalf” said Jim Walker, Braves’ President, “the Club will support the Banshee throughout the year, and it has already become a favorite spot for players and coaches alike.
“Changing the Club name was in no small part due to the nature of these new sponsorship relationships, because they interfered with those of the Boston Irish Wolfhounds RUFC, with whom we were originally affiliated,” Walker added, “and the Club felt the name ‘Boston Braves’ evoked the spirit of excellence and tradition, which we are committed to achieve for Rugby League in our City”. The name change was effective April1, 2006.
